37.Waterjug / black jug. Black jugs encountered in the area were nearly all made in Dőr, or Tüskevár. The technique used to obtain the black colour was reductive firing. Basically this means, the red-hot pottery was closed off oxygen during firing, and ensuing chemical processes resulted in the pottery turning black. A famous workshop was in Szentes, in the Great Plain.
