Smokey kitchens were not uncommon even in the 20th century in the Upper Balaton region, usually in the homes of poorer families, or elderly, who never modernized their homes. As these kitchens lack chimneys the smoke from the oven and hearth leaves can leave only through the door. Facilitate this, the door used for the houses was divided into an upper and lower part, that could be opened separately. The upper part was left open the let the smoke drift out, while the lower part, they kept closed, so the animals could not get in. In the exhibition fish dishes are set in the spotlight, and the problem of access to water in Tihany is explored in detail.
